‘Mothers of Gynecology’ art exhibit unveiling
On Mother’s Day, artist Michelle Browder offered guests a sneak peek of the “Mothers of Gynecology” exhibit. The 15-foot art installation is a tribute to enslaved Black women on whom J. Marion Sims operated between 1845 and 1849 in downtown Montgomery. Using the bodies of these women, Sims developed techniques and instruments that would innovate his field of medicine and earn him the title the “father of modern gynecology.”
The Radical Optimist team is proud to take part in the next introductory phase of the exhibit on September 24, 2021 in Montgomery.
